Cloning your Hard Drive
Cloning your hard drive is necessary when you want to upgrade your hard drive without having to reinstall Windows all over again. Let's see what we will need to clone our hard drive:
A new hard drive
Windows/Mac or Linux
Belena Etcher (Download Here)
A SATA to USB Adapter or M.2 to USB adapter (SATA adapter here, M.2 adapter here)
A backup of your data, just in case
Now that we have everything, let's see how to do it:
Turn on the PC
Once the system boots, plug in the new hard drive using the appropriate adapter.
Install and open Belena Etcher
Select clone drive
Click the system drive as the source
Click the new hard drive connected to USB as the source drive.
Once the process finishes, unplug the hard drive and shut down the PC.
Now let's switch out the old hard drive for the new one:
Unplug the PC
Open the case
Removing the mounting screws for the hard drive
Disconnect any cables attached to the old hard drive
Pull the old hard drive out of the case
Insert the new hard drive into either the M.2 slot or the mounting bracket
Replace any mounting screws
Replace any cables
Close the Case
Plug in the PC
Startup the system and see if everything boots properly and all of your data is still in tact. If not, use the physical backup to replace anything missing.
If you encounter any issues, restart the process and see if that works, if not, try another USB slot. If all else fails, send us an email (About Us page) and we will try to advise. Responses may take up to 48 hours between Monday - Friday.
